Yoga is a Sanskrit word pronounced “Yog” meaning union or connection. In Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism the word Yoga means “Spiritual discipline.” The beginnings of Yoga were developed by the Indus-Sarasvati Civilisation, in Northern India over 5,000 years ago.

Modern Yoga is based on 5 principles, created by Swami Sivananda, which involves;

Proper relaxation, exercise, breathing, diet, self-study & meditation.

All of which makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, life can get in the way, but Yoga, it seems offers lots of potential benefits. Will you give my yoga for absolute beginners a try?

Why Yoga for absolute beginners?

I decided to write a lifestyle takeaway post, on yoga because it is something I’ve always wanted to try but have been put off by what looks like incredibly difficult poses! When I’ve searched for beginners yoga positions, images of slim toned bodies standing on their heads, or grasping one leg to their ear have popped up. I’m not sure some people appreciate how difficult it is to sit on the floor cross-legged.

So, having looked at a variety of sources, here are some suggestions to get you started as demonstrated by me! I must say, having looked at the list of health benefits, for these poses which are my idea of beginner friendly, I wondered why I hadn’t tried them before. I’m sorry I’m not demonstrating with a beach backdrop, wearing a crop top in silhouette style. However, what I hope to do is show you that you can try this too!
